Engagement Tab Missing in Excel or Word
Issue
The Engagement ribbon tab is missing when opening an Excel or Word file from Engagement. Or, a workpaper from Engagement is acting in unexpected ways.
Cause
A non-responsive instance of Excel/Word may cause the plugin to break.
Possible Resolutions
Save before beginning
Test after each section
- Close any unresponsive instances of the affected program
	
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open Task Manager.
 - Close all EXCEL.EXE or WINWORD.EXE processes.
		
- Look in the Details tab if you see none in the Processes tab
 
 - Right-click the Excel or Word processes then click End Task.
 
 
- Check if the ribbon plugin is active.
	
- Open the affected program
 - Click File > Options > Add-ins
		
- In the Manage box, select Disabled Items
			
- Click Go
 
 
 - In the Manage box, select Disabled Items
			
 - Enable any add-ins from the list below
		
- Skip if nothing is disabled
 
 - In the Manage box, select the add-in type
		
- Excel Add-ins:
			
- Epace.xla (EXCEL ONLY)
 
 - Templates:
			
- Epace.dot (WORD ONLY)
 
 - COM Add-ins:
			
- Pfx.Ribbon.WordAddin (WORD ONLY)
 - Pfx.Ribbon.ExcelAddin (EXCEL ONLY)
 
 
 - Excel Add-ins:
			
 - Click Go
 - Click OK and close program

- Uninstall 
		
- Open Control Panel in Windows
 - Select Programs and Features
 - Or Uninstall a Program
 - Right click and uninstall
			
- Pfx.Ribbon.Exceladdin
 - Pfx.Ribbon.Wordaddin
 
 
 - Install
		
- Navigate to C:\Pfx Engagement\WM
 - Double-click on each file below
			
- Pfx.Ribbon.Exceladdin.vsto
 - Pfx.Ribbon.Wordaddin.vsto
 
 
 
 - Uninstall 
		
 
- If the ribbon will not stay enabled, repair all Visual Studio Tools for Office Runtime installs on the machine. These installs may include the following:
	
- Microsoft® Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office 2005
 - Microsoft® Visual Studio Tools for the Office system 3.0 Runtime
 - Microsoft® Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime
 
 
- If the ribbon is still not showing, a repair of Office then Engagement must be done
	
- 
		
- These must be done in order, otherwise engagement will not function properly
 
 - Repair Office
		
- Open Control Panel in Windows
 - Select Programs and Features
 - Or Uninstall a Program
 - Right click and Change on Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus
 - Select Online Repair
			
- You will need an internet connection for this
 
 - Once the repair is finished click Close
 
 - Repair Engagement
 - From the Uninstall a program window, find CCH PFX Engagement, and choose to repair
